The Rev. Canon Sara Lynn Shisler serves the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore as the Canon for Spiritual Formation. Sara is a cradle Episcopalian and Marylander; her home parish is Middleham and St. Peter’s in Lusby. It was during her time at Elon University as Religious Studies major that she first felt the Holy Spirit calling her to discern a call to ordination. She went through the discernment process in the Diocese of Maryland, attended Yale Divinity School and Berkley Divinity School at Yale receiving a Masters of Divinity in 2008 and a Masters of Sacred Theology with a concentration in Christian Ethics in 2009. In 2009 she returned to Maryland to intern at St. Mark’s on-the-hill in Pikesville. In June of 2010 she was ordained to the Diaconate and in January of 2011 to the priesthood.
Sara is thrilled to be serving the parish of the Incarnation and the Diocese of MD. Her passions for ministry include preaching the good news of the love of God, caring for and being present with others, walking with others on their path of formation, discerning with others their own ministries and vocations, working for justice, building relationships across the world, discerning in community what God is calling us to do and who God is calling us to be.
For sabbath and self-care Sara enjoys running, cooking and eating vegan cuisine, reading theology, doing yoga, painting, pottery, and gardening. She lives in Reservoir Hill with her partner Heather Goff and their two dogs, Maggie and Emma.
